What's with my firefox? Corrupted text.

Jun 22, 2010 2:10PM PDT

Recently, I have become unable to "type" correctly into some text fields such as the search bar on Gizmodo.com . Not all fields are affected; for example, Google's search bar works perfectly fine.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a local font issue, I've look at them all and I don't see any corrupted fonts when previewed.

The problem is localized to Firefox. It doesn't occur in Internet Explorer.

Just a guess

In Firefox > Tools > Options, goto "Content", then look through the "Fonts and Colors" section. Make sure the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above" option is ticked under the Advanced button options.

In Language, make sure your default language is set.

You may have to restart Firefox to see if it fixes it.

It's checked, and the issue still occurs.

Funny thing really, it's "fixed" if I force a font, but I prefer the font displayed on websites. It'd be a big hassle just to force whenever I needed it.

That gizmodo.com web site is a bit strange. The search field you gave an image for is actually labelled "login" when I visit the site in Firefox. That aside, I can type in english characters there without problem.

Ahh I see that bit now. The "login" is separate to the Q search field box. My error.

I've checked that first page's "Source", (View > Page source), but my inexperienced eye couldn't see anything unusual.

Are you using any unusual Firefox add-ons? Or any Google/Yahoo type of toolbars?

I'm stumped too.

I tried disabling everything I could, all my addons and extensions and switched to the default theme. I even tried a new, clean profile

I don't use any Google/Yahoo type of toolbars. The more screen space I can get, the better.
