IBM PC w/ Intel 8088 at 4.77 Megahertz.

I has CGA graphics and a 20 megabyte hard disk.

I think my Compaq Portable (same CPU and speed) is within a year of that one) but I haven't fired it up recently.

It runs PC-Dos 3.3

PowerSpec Desktop PC
Model #5233
Have had since August 1998
Intel Pentium II processor 266MHz
64MB SDRAM expandable to 384MB
6.4GB EIDE Western Digital hard drive; 5400 RPM, 256KB buffer
3.5" 1.44MB floppy disk drive
32X ATAPI/EIDE CD-ROM
PCI-128 3D 128 sound card
4MB PCI video w/S3 Virge DX 3D chipset
512K pipeline burst cache
250W ATX PS
56K fax modem w/voice and speakerphone
OS & software: MS Windows 95, MS Works, MS Encarta, MS Money, MS Entertainment pack.

I'm on my third HP inkjet printer with this system and my second CRT monitor. This system still runs but barely and will have to be put to rest very soon.

I would like to replace it soon with a new desktop PC from Velocity Micro but I can't decide whether to purchase one of their company's Vision SX-V models or the more upscale Vision 64; both systems have AMD Athlon processors.

I gave away a Gateway 486/66 with 730 MB Hard Drive running Win 95 with I believe 64 MB ram. It would actually get online but sloooowly.

Also had a completely functional Apple IIE with Imagewriter II printer, color monitor and Duodisk drive set up with loads of software including Word Perfect which had never been installed. That computer and software caused around $5000 to disappear from my bank account between 1985-87.

My reason to these expensive computers
Jul 28, 2005 11:33AM PDT

Competition wasn't as neck and neck as today. So companies could charge $$$$$$$ without fear of taking a hit. Now with Intel v AMD, nVidia v ATI and so on, they consistantly cut their prices. That's why a $400 computer can exist, but not 10 years ago.

Only 10 years? Maybe the computer world does evolve a little too fast.

Hybred XT with 286cpu
Aug 24, 2005 12:51PM PDT

A XT system based on a 286cpu. It was a cross of plain XT and AT w/o full blown AT abiilites. At the time pretty decent, now all it does is support the basement floor. Its last job was printing labels on a dot matrix, that too sits next to it. -----Willy Happy

Commodore 128

I forgot about the Vic-20. My Commodore 128 still works. 1571 drive. Old games. BTW, I have had success playing the games in C64 emulation in Windows XP. The PC versions of the old (paleo) games just don't have the great sounds and music (in relative terms) of C64 software.
