What's the difference between a Pentium M and a Pentium 4?

Hi I am thinking about purchasing a notebook. I don't know the difference between a Pentium M or Pentium 4 processor. A 1.8 ghz Pentium M equals how many ghz in a pentium 4?

Pentium 4 is now outdated. Very heat, low battery life, and fast, but pentium M is faster, cool, and long battery life. Pentium 4 is still good for desktops though.
