What's the deal with Canon A80? Is it done?

Aug 29, 2004 4:20PM PDT

This camera is discontinued at most major retail outlets (Circuit City, Best Buy, etc). That is surprising to me since it is a top rated camera at virtually every website. Is there a replacement coming out soon for this camera? The a85 is supposed to replace the A75 not the A80. Also, in the last few weeks the prices for this camera have shot up dramatically. Something strange is afoot...

I finally got my hands on one of these cameras. Office Depot had a fantastic sale this weekend where they unloaded their existing A80 stock for $199. That's the best price I have ever seen on this camera, and I had to race to several different stores before I got my hands on the very last one in Chicago. I love this camera, and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a top of the line point and shoot camera. If you're lucky, you might get the other chains to honor that Office Depot price. Just bring in the ad from this weekend and try your luck. However, most major chain stores like Best Buy and Circuit City have already sold out of their existing stock. Good Luck.
