Flyhigh1976,

I apologize, I've gotten behind in many of the posts this week with meetings.

The current firmware is the one in the televisoin - there isn't an update yet. If your television is experiencing problems, I would recommend having a service tech inspect your unit. You can get this done by calling 800-SAMSUNG and scheduling an appointment.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping this is a cable issue Sad I will contact the samsung customer service center. Do you have any theories on what could be wrong with the TV? This thing is bugging me..any help will be greatly appreciated

Flyhigh1976,

My theory might be that the signal could be weak. Usually this can be compensated with a cable box (for a charge, no doubt) or a line amplifier (sometimes free, depending on the cable company) that plugs into the wall.

If your signal strength is strong from the split box to your house, and your house to your wall, then it may be a tuner issue or a different internal issue. Without actually being able to play with the unit, it's hard to determine based on the post.

In some cases, resetting the cable box (this can be done by calling the cable company, and they can do it remotely) may fix the issue as well. It's worth a shot if you're waiting for a tehnician.

Keep me posted.

I initially thought the problem was with the signal so I set an appointment with the cable company before I started looking for solutions on my own.
What beats me is I get the picture and sound for 2-10 minutes before I the "Weak or no signal" message. If I shutdown the TV and restart it after couple of minutes I get the picture/sound for another 2-10 minutes. If I do not shutdown and restart the TV, after the no signal message, the problem persists. If the signal was the problem restarting the TV should have no impact. What test can I do to prove/disprove that tuner shutdowns after few minutes and restart every time I start the TV.
Thanks for patiently following up with me. I have called Samsung customer center and they have opened a problem ticket. Thanks again.

Flyhigh1976,

Keep me posted. I'm interested to hear the outcome of this symptom/resolution. I wonder if even a simple line amplifier in the cable would help. But let me know what you hear.

No problem with cable signal
Jul 27, 2009 2:03AM PDT

The cable company technician found nothing wrong with the cable signal. I also think signal quality might not be the issue because I have no problem with the internet speed (which comes from same cable )and have no problem watching internet TV. So I have decided to return the TV and get a replacement Sad. I hope the next one will not turn out to be a lemon.
Thanks for following up though. I wish the Samsung customer service on the phone had similar attitude. I was surprised when CS agent argued with me that since I can watch DVD and Internet TV there is no problem with the TV.

Now I have a problem using the widgets. After watching "You Tube" for an hour or so TV shuts down on it own. Are these symptoms related?

Flyhigh1976,

I'm sorry to hear that one of our agents was less than professional. A tuner issue could logically be isolated while the other inputs work fine.

Are the widgets happening with the new TV? Did you return the unit already and have it replaced and this is happening on the new one? If this is the same television, it sounds like you might want to exchange it and see if these issues don't disappear.

In some instances, while the cable line can test fine, it's not always an indication that there isn't interference or weaknesses in the broadcasting signal. Internet signals and broadcast signals are on a different frequency, but that's a whole other discussion, I suppose.

Let me know if this widget issue is happening on your new TV, or if you're thinking of exchanging it - which is what I would recommend at this point if it's still an option.

Thanks for asking. The widgets issue is happening on the old TV. I haven't yet received the new TV.
Is there a way I can test, independent of the cable company, the quality of the TV signal? I have to believe them when they come to my apartment, check the connection, signal quality and say everything is fine. I also have an analog TV and there are no issues with it.

I exchanged the TV and new one doesn't have this problem. Problem seems to be with the TV tuner.
