what's the best option anyone

Nov 10, 2004 10:05AM PST

one of my clients wants to add a 3rd computer to his network of which the two are connected with a crossover cable. He wants the 3rd pc in an adjacent office. He said he is concerned about reliability, cost and security. I'm thinking either remove the crssover cable and use a hub instead with 10base2 cables or 10baseT.someone has also suggested a third option of leaving the crossover cable and join the 3rd pc serially with a standard serial cable to one of the computers. I'm only starting out in this business and would not want to mess up help-going there tommorow

A switched hub is less money than any consulting fee and is the standard. Why invent trouble?

How about a wireless 4 port router. Router for around fifty bucks. Wireless NIC for around twenty. And it's expandable to four PCs, wired or wireless. He'll have internet access too.

Good luck,
