Another Defensive Option

Following the Bluesecurity fiasco, which i truly lament, my account has been bombed with returned mail from everywhere, as someone is using it to SPOOFING. That's even worse than spam since it's using your own account to spam randomly.

Google advise on forward all SPOOFING mail to :

spam@uce.gov

Hope they can do something to stop this madness...

Spam Fighter Calls It Quits

Stories - May 17, 2006:

The Washington Post today ran a story I wrote on the demise of Blue Security, a software company whose innovative approach to fighting spam -- by having its users strike back at the spammers with a disruptive flood of return e-mails -- utlimately backfired when the spammers launched a counter-counterattack that shuttered Blue Security's site and knocked millions of others off the Web for the better part of a day.

Blue is gone
by thomasdmorrow / May 21, 2006 8:44 PM PDT

NPR reported last week that Blue Security / Blue Frog was going out of business. Pharman, the spammer who started this war, had threatened to send viruses to each Blue member's computer. He also had threatened to shut down entire sections of the internet. (With his level of sophistication, he could do it too.)

Blue mmanagement decided the risks to members was too great, so they decided to cease operations.

Okopipi is the successor to Blue Security's Blue Frog projec

What is Okopipi?

Okopipi is the successor to Blue Security's Blue Frog project. This project aims to become a distributed replacement of anti-spam software Blue Frog, which does not depend on a centralized server. It will be based on a P2P network (the "frognet"). On failure to connect it could still opt out given e-mail addresses. The project is currently in the design phase.
