What's better, 1 larger CCD or smaller triple CCD?

Jun 20, 2005 5:54PM PDT

I've narrowed my search down to the Panasonic PV-GS65 w/ three 1/16" CCDs or the JVC GR-D550 which has a 1/4.5 inch single CCD with 1.33 MP.

Features and price about the same but don't know which will give the best quality picture.

Better color in 3 CCD.

I can't do full justice to why, but here goes. With 3 CCD the color filter can be superior and the CCD(s) will each get one color band each. If you research how a single CCD (color) works you can see that some splashover of light is possible.

Dive in. It's fun.

Generally, 3ccd is better, but if they are small, like the 1/6", you will not get very good low light.
A large 1 ccd will often give you just as good color in good lighting, but give you much, much better results in low light.
