Resolved Question

What's a decent, cheap isp?

May 22, 2014 8:37AM PDT

I'm on a fixed income (not like all you richies);
$50 a month is steep for me. Is there a decent isp
that charges 10-20/per month?

Is that decent isp or decent speed?
May 22, 2014 11:02AM PDT

Decent speed, I have my doubt. We are maybe talking about dialup or introductory dsl. Of course with wifi or dsl, you may or may not have it in your area. So it all depend on where you are. Check that out.

My mom pays that much.

It's Netzero with their 4G portable WiFi hotspot no less. If my mom can set that up, I think most can do that.

Netzero my first thought
May 23, 2014 1:32PM PDT

Tried netzero years back and found I would rather pay the toll than be interupted every two minutes with commercials.
Hope they have changed.

Don't use AT&T DSL
May 23, 2014 3:17PM PDT

New customers can get AT&T DSL for a year for $19.95 but
then they will want to increase it to $40 or more. Don't let them
talk you into getting their U-Verse service because you can't go
back to DSL very easily after they raise your rates.

For a simple soutiion try DSLextreme.com.
You can get 6mbs DSL for $22.85 total and they are much more
customer friendly than AT&T.

I have hated AT&T ever since a contractor lied about service.

Answer
do you have a landline phone?
May 23, 2014 3:18PM PDT

what do you pay for it? $25, $35, more per month? You then add $10-20 more onto that? You are already at $50 and for that cost per month you can get internet only service which you can then add a Magic Jack VOIP phone to for phone service. The cost per year is about $40 if you also ported your old phone number to it.

So, with a broadband internet service you can also have almost free phone service, view videos from TV at their websites after they've shown on live TV broadcast.

I only have a Cricket flip phone now for $21/mo

I only have a Cricket flip phone for $21/mo; will see Cricket about their 'tethering' & plans. $40 is too steep.
