What Program needed to open an attachment

Feb 13, 2004 6:58AM PST

I have Windows 98 2nd ed. and Internet Explorer. My computer has lots of memory, etc, but today I received an attachment on an e-mail that was a family tree "Chart". The letters .cht follow the title of the attachment.

I tried to open it with Wordpad but it came up with lots of little squares rather than text. Could you tell me what program I should select to open this please?

Thanks, Lillian

Lillian,

Look to the link below for the .cht file extension listings.

The most probable appears to be the "Generations Family Tree Chart" which can be found at the link below. It looks like you may need to use their software if you really want to view the family tree. Then again, maybe the sender of your e-mail could copy and paste the chart into some other universal document, like Notepad, or Microsoft Word.:

Hope this helps.

I have a dell Dimesion Desktop Computer. HFHBOC1 wit Word 2002. The problem that I am experiencing is when my Grandson sends me an e-mail with an attachment. The attachment cannot be opened. When I click on the attachment and it is scanned for a virus, it hten instructs me to
download the attachment. When I click on open or save, the picture of the earth continues to throw papers into a folder and does not stop. Most times the papers in the attachment are less than ten pages. I am unable to open or save the attachment. This does not happen with all e-mails.
