General discussion

What players offer these features

Dec 4, 2005 4:45AM PST

I'm currently looking for a new mp3 player, the following features are most important to me:

1) I'm primarily interested in flash models that are at least 1 gig, but i might also consider a hard drive type model.

2) it should have a USB connector built in and be able to recharge though the connector

3) it should offer an FM stereo

4) it should be able to transfer mp3s to and from the player without the need for any special software (should look like a regular removable drive when connected to a pc or mac)

An OLED screen would also be nice, but not it's necessary

Any suggestions are most appreciated!

Are you sure?

I am under the impression that the Zen Micro and Zen Neeon models don't have a built in USB connector and require you to use something like windows media player in order to transfer files to it. Am I missing something?

I don't think so

it seems that the creative website is a bit unclear about whether some particular software is required to move music files on and off the player, but it seems to clearly say that it uses a USB cable. I am looking for a player which does not require a cable, but rather, has the USB connector directly on the player itself like the Muvo models (unfortunately, none of the current muvo models can recharge through the built in USB port). I am looking for something more like the ipod shuffle, except with a screen and FM tuner.

I have this model, and it works great as a USB drive on XP with no software installed. Haven't tried it on a MAC or any other OS. It has a voice recorder, and FM stereo. It even lets you record the radio if you want. Doesn't recharge through USB, but it uses a AA battery and gets like 40hrs on a battery. I actually prefer that to a built in battery. AA rechargeables are cheap. I find its interface to be as easy to use as an Ipod (though some of my Ipod using friends don't).

One other thing I like is it automatically remembers where you are if you turn it off in the middle of a large audio file. Great for audiobooks.
