what permissions should users be assigned?

Jun 27, 2016 10:41AM PDT

I have my own personal laptop that I need to understand in regards to permissions and which ones users should have. For instance, should the SYSTEM user be assigned full control or ? I need to know, I am the administrator, what rights or permissions should I allow or have normally on my LT running windows10?

Permisssions
Jun 27, 2016 12:36PM PDT

Thank you. This is my personal laptop and at some point in the past someone tried to help me keep my files private due to being on a home network, (my own group, though). I apologize for not being more specific, but what I don't know is which permissions should the SYSTEM user have, which takes me to more questions as I don't understand who the Authenticate Users are and what permissions they should have. I am the administrator and I have all permissions except Special Permissions. The pictures file has the user account, my pc name) has full permissions, but it does not have some basic permissions, because it is "limited by Share". I would like to know what each group of users normally has when it comes to permissions. I am the only user of my laptop, however, my family shares the Internet, so we share the network. I setup my own group, which seems to work well.

We would have to know

What object you are tinkering with to see what's different from stock permissions.

I have yet to change the system permissions for about 16 years. That is, stock has worked well for me.

PS to My Questions
Jun 27, 2016 1:07PM PDT

I believe the System user permissions was set differently in the past by me or my helper though I am sure it was a mistake. I am using my Pictures folder as an example, but I want to know about all my folders permissions, including the properties listed in C:. I meant to say earlier that I am in my own "workgroup". If I am the administrator and user, I believe I should have full permissions, but I don't know why Everyone or System would have those kind of permissions, so what kind of permissions would they normally be set at for someone's personal computer in their own workgroup on a shared Internet connection. I don't have the Home group setup and don't want to set it up, so that may give you an idea of what I want, which is privacy for me and operating settings that will allow me to continue on our Home network.

Question
Jun 27, 2016 3:20PM PDT

Thank you very much. However, this is a shot of your Public picture folders, which I understand should probably have full permissions since it is being shared with the Public part of Windows10. This would be on my personal folders, from documents to C:. If you look at those permissions, do you see what the permissions System or Everyone has? Thanks for responding.

I also took a shot of my Pictures too

But as it had my name in it I decided to compare permissions to the public version and it was the same. So I posted that instead.

Let me check "Everyone" again.

Sorry but I don't have an "Everyone" group so I can't guess your question here. Tell more about what this "Everyone" is.
