What p is 1680x1050? and how much better is 1080p?

I am thinking of buying a new moniter. I want the resolution to be awesome, but am woundering how much better 1080p is. and what resolution = 1080p?

You won't see the difference. p stands for progressive or i stands for interlace.

Here in the U.S. all the monitors I see are either 720p or 1080p (for hdmi connection), I have never seen a 1050. So as I said, you will not see the difference but buy what is standard in your country. So if you get the 1080p then be sure your video card is capable of producing that.

Is getting anything higher than 1080p good? I know that displaying higher res than the media being displayed is bad but if higher resolutions are going to become standard I might be willing to buy those.

a common resolution. Basically High definition movies are either 720p or 1080p.

I won't waste my money on a higher resolution than 1080p monitor then.
