What other podcasts does everyone listen to/watch?

by DaveBinM / April 13, 2008 4:30 PM PDT

Hey, just wondering what other podcasts aside from BOL everyone listens to or watches.

For me, it?s:

The Chaser?s War On Everything (Defunct)
East Meets West []
Engadget (kinda defunct) []
Extralife Radio []
Happy Tree Friends []
Diary of A Writer []
Mahalo Daily []
Security Now! []
Strong Bad E-mail []

(Plus the one I produce for my church, but I don't think that really counts)

For me...

The Real Deal (Tom and Rafe's FUDbuster...check it out)

TWIT(getting tired of some of the regular guests other than Dvorak)

ExtremeTech (This is about as prosaic as it gets, but lots of good info)

PC Mag Radio (Too much Apple fanboyism lately, but still worthwhile)

GearLog (Haven't heard it on air the past couple of weeks)

DLTV (Seems to be in a "what are we going to do and who's the host" mode)

Been on the Lounge for 2 and a half years.
by udayan71 / April 14, 2008 3:32 AM PDT

Having been here for so long, I always smile when I see new threads about which desktops, websites, podcasts people like.

Obviously these threads have happened before, and it's always a new group of people writing in response.

I always like coming back to the Lounge because although there are always people I know leaving, there will always be new people coming, and sharing their geek preferences.

Just a wistful little comment from me Happy

A Prairie Home Companion, Baghdad Briefing from The Post, CFR podcasts, East Meets West, Pages of The Post, Harvard Business Review, Morning Becomes Eclectic, MobLogic (video podcast), The Moth, Nature magazine's podcast, New Scientist's podcast, New Yorker Fiction, PRI: Design for the Real World, PRI: Selected Short Stories, Science Talk from SciAm, Slate's Explainer, Slate's Daily, Slate V, Squadcast, Tekzilla (video), This American Life, tWiT, TravelCommons, The Truth About Cars, World View from NYT, and You Look Nice Today.

Wow. That's a lot of blue dots.

I figured as much when I made this
by DaveBinM / April 14, 2008 11:27 AM PDT

I was expecting there to be an old one somewhere, but it's still interesting to see what happens, and new podcasts are always springing up.

you are old!
by PortVista-190953130350169 / April 14, 2008 11:36 AM PDT

You sound like you are over 30 years old, which is like 90 in IT years. I maintain that BOL listeners are "kids" still in school or between graduating and finding a job, that's why they have time to listen to the live show and play a lot of WoW. Wink

In reply to: you are old!

I'm EIGHTEEN. You totally called me OLD! Ugh. (Kidding).

Occupation: In my final days of high school in London, about to go to college in the U.S.

Time: Got NONE. Between RSS, schoolwork, housework, and 8 hours needlessly lost at school, I have no free time. So, no time to see the live show or play WoW. I do make time to moderate these forums though, because it's worth cutting time out of other things for this hallowed place.

Out of curiosity: What made you think I am 30?

which college will you be going to?

Just curious. I vaguely remember you mentioning a couple of the Ivys and Stanford a long while back.

I used to listen to a geocaching podcast but they had a long dry spell with no updates so I move on.

I'd forgotten Geek Pop
by DaveBinM / April 14, 2008 11:35 AM PDT

Yeah, I watch that too, but I don't think its actually a podcast (yet?), I've just been downloading from CNET TV

Collapse -
It's not on the podcasts page
by ktreb / April 14, 2008 12:30 PM PDT
In reply to: I'd forgotten Geek Pop

So I guess it's not officially a podcast? I don't know, but I subscribe to it using iTunes.

How do you do that?
by DaveBinM / April 14, 2008 1:43 PM PDT

How do you subscribe to it using iTunes? I've just been doing it manually, downloading from CNET TV, then adding to iTunes.

use this link
by ktreb / April 14, 2008 2:02 PM PDT
In reply to: How do you do that?

This link is to the Geek Pop videos only. I found that doing a search for Geek Pop within CNET TV gave me more results than I wanted.
Then click on the "podcast" button, and either copy the link into your rss feeder or click onto the "subscribe using iTunes" button. This should work, but in iTunes it adds a second CNET TV list in my podcasts (the other one being for Mailbag) - at least for me, it does.
I guess it's not really subscribing to the podcast per se, but rather subscribing to the playlist.

by rafe CNET staff / April 14, 2008 2:58 PM PDT

... so after taping Real Deal (and occasionally BOL) I also try to listen to shows I otherwise don't have a chance to pick up on the radio:

* NPR's Science Friday
* This American Life
* Dan Carlin's Hardcore History (I think the series is done, but it's worth playing)

by Medway_Col / April 14, 2008 4:45 PM PDT

I did fill up an A4 page when I made a list of my feeds but my main feeds at the moment are:
BOL (of course)
Scott Siglar (Various Audio books)
7th Son (Audio book)
The Onion video
Mr Diety video
Mailbag (Cnet video)
Abigails xrated teen diary (Comedy Video)
Going linux
Linux outlaws
Loaded (Cnet video)
The digg reel
Best of you tube
Podfinder uk
buzz report
plus a whole lot of audio books from podiobooks

there are a few other podcasts that i enjoyed but stopped listening to as I didn't have enough time
like Mahalo, cranky geeks, DLTV, dailysourcecode, TWIS, The Naked scientist, gadgettes and a few others that i can't remember.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
