Question

what modem for comcast voice and internet

by la3333 / November 20, 2011 7:04 AM PST

I'm planning on changing to Comcast internet and voice, along with cable which I currently have with them. (I live in Western MA in case it matters)
My question is whether you can buy your own modem?
I know you can by the internet modem, but how about something that will allow their telephone service as well?

I tried looking online, but i'm not sure if the modems that do voice have some sort of name that I am not using as a keyword.

I'd rather not pay for the rental fees.

thanks.

Answer
The MTA is from Comcast.

I lived near Boston and the MTA is their choice. Figure 60 to 150 to pay for it but the rental was cheap and would take years to pay back. Besides, if the MTA fails, they fix theirs but not yours.

Answer
what's the name of these type of modems?
by la3333 / November 20, 2011 8:42 AM PST

thanks, but what model? or what are they called when looking them up?

Here it was 7.95/mo, so if I get it for 60, anything over 8months, I'm ahead of the game.

thanks again.

Since they only allowed 2 models.

Ask Comcast for the exact model numbers and how much. I moved last year and don't have the numbers any more. But you are not counting the cost of any service call.
