Long ago Tomshardware did an experiment by changing motherboards to see what gains could be had. Using the same memory, CPU, drives the results were all within 2 percent so the conclusion was there was nothing to gain here.
This appears to be true today. If you have a working motherboard there is no gain in changing it.

I'm looking for descent gaming board to put maybe a Radeon 2gb (also open to suggestions) in and replace ageing setup. The most I'll do is basic gaming with games like Battlefront, Company of Heroes, Diablo. I was looking at the Asus Crosshair V Formula-z, but I'm not sure I'll be doing all that much over clocking and would like to keep it closer/under $150. Any ideas?
