Question

What laptop should I buy

Sep 15, 2015 9:46PM PDT

I'm setting up a small business and need a budget laptop to get me by until I can buy a better something better soon. It's between the HP 255 G3 AMD A4 4GB RAM 500GB and the Compaq 15 s108na 8GB RAM 1TB and the lenovo G50-30 Celeron 4GB 500GB. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would have thought the one with the most ram would be best but I don't think it's always the case. Thankyou very much for your help.

Answer
I'd pass on the A4

The A4's I've tried are very slow. In fact we had one, increase the RAM to 8GB and still was so slow we gifted it to a college student that had no computer.

The other 2 are similar to what my wife has for a travel laptop and are very usable. My choice would be the G50. and 108na due to the RAM.

Would I be better off getting a refurb used laptop with an i5 processor in. A guy I've spoken to online says he can meet me with a few used laptops with i5 processors that he says run better than new. He's offered me a 30 day warranty with one as well for all around the £200 mark. Do you think I'd be best off with one of them instead.

Your choice.

Laptops tend to not age well. Past 2 years and you accept they can be trouble. If you can live with 30 day warranty and accept it for what it is, then why not? In my part of the world I don't have to deal with some guy. I can get refurbs from woot.com and others that have done these in bulk and not your corner shop or garage.

Your money so your choice.

Would I be best buying a refurb used i5 I've spoken to a guy who says he can give me one with a 30 day warranty. There's a dell, fujitsu Siemens and a IBM lenovo he's says they run faster than new. All for £200 or less. Would an older i5 be faster than a newer Celeron cpu.
