Question

What laptop is better ? Asus X555LN vs Lenovo B50-70

Sep 5, 2015 11:31AM PDT

Hello, I intend to buy a laptop in less than 3 days. The laptop will be used for programming and light gaming from time to time. The 2 final choices are:

Notebook / Laptop ASUS 15.6'' K555LN, FHD, Procesor Intel® Core™ i5-4210U 1.7GHz Haswell, 4GB, 1TB, GeForce 840M 2GB, FreeDos, Dark blue

Notebook / Laptop Lenovo 15.6'' B50-70, FHD, Procesor Intel® Core™ i5-4210U 1.7GHz Haswell, 4GB, 500GB, Radeon R5 M230 2GB, FreeDos, Fingerprint Reader, Black

Both will have another 4GB DDR3 RAM added to have 8GB and a 256GB SSD instead of the HDD.

I want a laptop with a good keyboard, a nice screen, and a solid build. I've seen some Lenovo laptops at my local store and their build was awful, the keyboard area was very flexible. But from what I heard that happens only on some laptops. I can't test them personally so please share your exepriences with those laptops if you have any.

Thanks!

You would have to see these in person to see if they are acceptable. I've used laptops for years with a little keyboard flex. To me this was how things should be in this form factor and cost. There are folk screaming about keyboard flex so they need to test before buying.

-> I see 2 video solutions. Google like this to compare.

NOTEBOOKCHECK 840M
GPUBOSS

My bet is both use DDR3 for video. That means no high end gaming. Entry level only.

Thanks for the advice.

From the GPUBOSS comparation the 940M from the Asus is slightly better than Lenovo's M230 but this is not a big factor for me as I will use my desktop PC for gaming. I would trade the GPU performance of a laptop anytime for a better build. I will wait maybe someone that has used both laptops can give his insight.

These models in USA/Canada

Are far too rare. In fact I had to look them up to find them. I wonder if this is some Uganda specific models targeting cost only. The other recurring issue is when folk try to install Windows. I find most blow up over that.

Models

These models are from Romania, Lenovo's price is 500USD and the Asus is 600USD

I don't want to share US prices.

Can upset folk. HOWEVER just this week I ordered a few replacement keyboards for a few Lenovo's and the one keyboard we got for the Lenovo fit a dozen models from Lenovo. So you don't have to find your specific model. If you find a B50 then for the keyboard it should be same.

I will look for a B50 in the next days to see their keyboards. And about the price. Yes I know the prices are much lower but that is because our country has a stupid VAT of 9-24% and export prices...
