My neighor gave me an external hard drive before he moved, the only problem is that he took the case off of it so i cant tell what kind of drive it is, so i cant download the driver to get it to work on my computer. is there any way to find out what kind of drive it is?

It's 1 or 3 things.

1. The drive is dead. (case or drive)

2. Your machine's USB ports are USB 1.1

3. The motherboard drivers are out of date.
