What kind of CPU runs your computer?

I'm running on a P5 1.9gb cpu. with 512 on the mother board. I also have 2 physical drives, one for the operating system and the other for data storage and backup. I'm presently running win98se and in 2weeks will be upgrading to XP PRO. The person who helped me build this PC 4 years ago and will be guiding me through the reinstalation says XP will be a perfect fit. sonny

AMD 64 X2 4400+
Sep 16, 2005 4:48AM PDT

I just got my new computer this week and moved from an INTEL 1.7 GHZ to the AMD 64 DUAL CORE 4400+ and man does this thing smoke, nothing slows it down. I was the type to have a dozen apps running at once and the old computer would just bog down and hang, not the new one. The price jump was well worth it. I also do Distributed Computing for a site called Find-a-Drug.org.uk and my contribution has increased fivefold. If you can donate your extra cpu cycles please drop by, and join the team I belong too, The Barbarian Frogs (team #2162), it is a great community and you may halp find a cure for Cancer or one of the other diseases they are working on. The software runs in idle mode so it does not interfere with your computer use while you are doing other things, or just leave the computer on when you are not using it. If the monitor is off the cost is minimal. At least drop by the site and see if you might be interested, and help your fellow man. Just tell them the SCHIZO sent you.

What Kind - so kind of you to ask
Sep 16, 2005 4:55AM PDT

I've used AMD Athlons for the past few years, and am not using the AMD Athlon 64's. They are cheap, reliable, and I've not had any issues with any of them since early 486 days. Why would I change? What does Intel have to offer instead? Nada.

AMD Sempron 3100+
Sep 16, 2005 10:55AM PDT

This CPU uses the same socket and motherboards as the low end to mid level Athlon 64's, so it gives me the option of an Athlon 64 upgrade without having to replace the motherboard.

I am running photshop and premiere elements, burning CD's and DVD's and the CPU performance seems just fine for this purpose. I guess, because this is the upper end of the Sempron line, this CPU doesn't care to be overclocked.

I'll probably move to an Athlon 64 early next year, once the prices drop a little more. I'm on a budget.

I have used AMD since Intel usess their SLIME BALL tactic, of brodcasting the serial the processor being used. I will never trust them again, if I live to be 150.

Intel Pentium 4 HT
Sep 16, 2005 6:47PM PDT

I have a Pentium 4 HT running at 3 Ghz, with a FBS of 800 Mhz. With this speed, i can make a lot of tasks without problems, except when i'm doing Music... those music softwares really eat CPU resources !! but my cpu supports that and much more Happy

In my opinion, the intel cpus, are the best of the market for PC's, with the highest velocities... AMD are good for simple and easy tasks, but if you need power and speed, Intel must be your choice.
