Why do you always use AMD?
Sep 19, 2005 11:28AM PDT

I am asking stupid questions; but it is my money when I buy the next computer/laptop.
I have a Pentium 4 (recent) and good for home and business. I work on Pentiums at work (I think since they all have Intel Pentium logos, but never really checked because the tech dept gets seriously irritated). The only time I get kudos from the tech dept is when I run virus checks and report infected computers or tell them EXACTLY what the error message says.
Besides rambling, I want to buy a laptop w/o paying a bundle. I can only do this if its got an AMD processor or INTEL Celeron. People I know have said I should stay with Pentium.
Opinions?

AMD.... good choice.
Sep 20, 2005 5:18PM PDT

Yes, yes, yes...

My last Intel was a 486 DX-50, it was a very fast proccesor, since then I've used AMD's, why?, well, when AMD delivered K6-2 & Intel the Pentium 2, comparing the speed of both proccesors, AMD was much faster than Intel & cheaper too, till now AMD's are faster than Intel's & still are cheaper, so why will I buy Intel proccesors for my computers?, more, AMD's run cooler than Intel's.

I'm the owner of a computer store, so i can compare both brands performance everyday, and.... the right choice is AMD, I'm not saying Intel Proccesors are bad, i'm saying AMD's are better.

AMD - I have 4 computers ranging from 700mhz - 1.7 ghz

I have no problens with AMD. I go for the underdog and the lower prices of componets. I build my own computers instea of brand names so that I can get adequate upgeade capbility.

Both of my current PCs run AMD Athlon XPs @ 2 gig.

I have been building my own PCs since 386AT days, and have used AMD exclusively. I have no use for Intel and will not buy their products, at least for my own use. Customers get what they want, but I will strongly advise on using AMD in those cases.

I'm running two machines currently. The new on is an Athlon 64 3200+ with Windows XP Home. The other one is a five-year-old Athlon 800 MHz running Windows 98 SE. I have them networked and they get along famously.

My CPU is AMD Athlon XP-A, 1900 MHz (11.5 x 165) Barton. It is probably not the fastest on earth, but it is doing a fine job. I am running MS Office 2003 and quite heavy application like Abbyy Fine Reader. You probably will find faster CPUs on the market now (mine is 1? year old/. So, don't worry about speed, be happy with the one you have!

Dell Inspiron Laptop--Intel Pent. M 1400
Sep 16, 2005 2:19AM PDT

With a laptop you need good performance but you really really really need power management. The Pentium III mobile with built in WiFi is really quite good. It runs at 1400 MHz with a 8192 KB L2 cache. I get about 4 hours of word processing with this chip---really squeezes the amp/hours out of a battery.

AMD Athlon 64 3500+/Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz/ AMD Athlon 1.2
Sep 16, 2005 3:46AM PDT

My main workhorse is my Athlon 64 3500+... Second would be the Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz. They are both about equal from most repects, both used for CAD primarily...
