what kind of cpu can i buy

os: windows vista home premium
cpu: intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40 GHz
cpu speed: 3.42 ghz
video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS

i tried to figure out what kind of motherboard i had through a test and this is what came up
Manufactuar: Gigabyte Technology co., Ltd
Model: EP35-DS3L
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
X86-based PC

im looking for a 3.0ghz+ duel core cpu or a quad, basically something that will run just cause2 and metro 2033

Since, you already know your mtrbd. model#, visit the maker's support website and look-up the specs. The socket type will be readily shown or gotten.

IMHO, I suspect you have an older socket type, possibility 478, as 3.4mhz is not available(?) in multiple core cpus. If that's the case, you can't upgrade to what you proposed in your post.
