What Is XP Gold?

What is XP gold vis a vis just plain old Windows XP and/or Windows XP with Service Pack 1?

A Gold version is a version that was released to manufacturing. But in today's marketing, they can plaster that onto just about anything.

In short, it means little.

What Bob says is correct about the XP "Gold" being the first release made to PC manufacturers. This "Gold" version code is not for consumers but for PC Makers such as HP/Compaq/DELL etc...

"In an event today on the Microsoft main campus, Bill Gates and Jim Allchin presented the final Windows XP "gold code" to representatives from six major PC manufacturers. Commemorative CDs containing the final Windows XP software were placed into six gold ZERO Halliburton P5 attach

i wondered myself. so, to make a short story long and keep out of the tornado, i went to the site. it's a manufacturers site, with a lot fewer capabilities than xp pro. so basically, it;s kind of a final relaese beta. or somewhere in between. gold is where you find it and the 64-bit gold edition sure isn't golden in my book.
