Problem with Safari?
Oct 23, 2006 1:27AM PDT

?reading html codes.
Everything I download (JPEG and PowerPoint) is read as pure code and I unable to read it.
The same file downloaded from firefox is correct.
The problem started with the auto update to OSX10.4.7.
I thought it would be fixed with OSX10.4.8, and still unable to read files downloaded.
I do not know what is wrong.
I called the IT people at Adelphia to ask if others had a similar problem with Adelphia.
Their response was "NO. Must be a problem with Safari. Try using Firefox."
That's where I stand right now. Cannot read any files downloaded from Safari.
I also have Seamonkey and VLC but haven't tried them out.
There are no updates available after OSX10.4.6.
There were fixes with Safari with OSX10.4.6.
Thanks,

Downloading JPEG and PP files?
Oct 27, 2006 2:50PM PDT

? from friends, also sending files from work to my home.
Small JPEG or EPS image files as an attachment to download. All files are interpreted as code only with Safari.
Using Firefox as a browser, the files are read and downloaded as a PDF, JPEG, or as an EPS file that are readable.

Any photo file that is attached to text I can read with Safari and Firefox.
Problems with Safari with download only.

So when you download the file...
Oct 28, 2006 12:07AM PDT

it is a file on your computer. Not that it should make a difference, but then to open it, I presume you double click on it. Most people would, and I presume that is how you open these docs from Firefox... anyway, what happens if you download the image to your machine, then drag and drop the image on top of Preview or iPhoto or whatever your image-manipulation application is?

If the image file is an enclosure on email, that means you can get to it from either Firefox or Safari? So the same file in the same email does this?

Hmmmm... got to think about this a bit more... I agree the workaround proposed should work, but Safari should not be behaving this way - and the only way it would be happening is if the image file data is being changed by Safari - and that makes no sense (especially since the other apps don't cause this behavior).

No problems?
Oct 27, 2006 2:56PM PDT

?I just wish I did not have a problem either.
Maybe my download and update from Apple to OSX.10.4.6, 7 and 8 went south and the downloads were not complete. Just guessing here.
Any guesses or fix?

A fix (workaround)
Oct 27, 2006 11:02PM PDT

would be to stop using Safari as your mail client and try the Mail program.
See if the problem exists with it?

If you are using your ISP's webmail system, there may be something that is coded out of standards.

No problems to report either...
Oct 28, 2006 1:15AM PDT

Have you tried reinstalling Safari? If that brings no joy, create a new user account on your workstation and login as that user, if Safari problems go away you will know that it is a preference on your regular account that needs to be adjusted. If the problems persist submit a bug report.

Hope this helps.

Rick, that link you offered has nothing about the discussion

Why is that in your post?

These forums don't allow site promotion.

Umm. Okay. I assume you are talking about the link in my signature. Not sure why it is against the rules, but I'll try to remember not to use it if I post to this forum again. I post on dozens of lists and forums every week and that's the first complaint I've ever heard.

Spam free zone.
Oct 29, 2006 12:23AM PDT

The reason the mods note is it that its a form of spam. The lid and screws are tight on this one and you'll find next to no spam in these forums. Besides the forum policies against site promotion, any form of spam is either dealt with or in the case of helpful members you get some response as to why.

As to the issue I'm of the mind to use what software gets the job done and not to fret too long if an application doesn't work out.

?I guess that you are looking out for us all.
I did go to his site. Interesting.
I did report a bug problem to Apple at this time.

Bob, do you have any ideas concerning this problem with Safari and what I should do? Rick said reinstall Safari. How the heck do I do that??
Bugs me out!!
Any ideas from Peter on a reinstall?
P. Reinstall from Apple?
Maybe the download went corrupt!?
I do not have a clue.

A fix (work-around)
Oct 28, 2006 11:44AM PDT

That could be. I do not use the Mac mail.
Maybe I should. For a while it was good and that went south also. Constantly prompting for a password. Could not list my password. Rejected HUH!

I got tired of it.
It still works with Adelphia and duplicates ALL emails from Adelphia. That is a duplicate as I see it.
One email that comes to Adelphia and that email is duplicated in Mac Mail also.

Not sure what is wrong

Define duplication
Oct 28, 2006 10:38PM PDT

You say that one mail comes to Adelphia and that email is duplicated in Mac Mail also.

In what way is it duplicated?

If you mean that you can use Safari/Firefox to look at your mail using the Adephia web mail site and all mail that you see there is also viewable in the Mail program, then there is not a problem. The system is operating as designed.
All your mail, from wherever, is delivered to a box with your name on it, in the Adelphia Mail Server.
From there you have a number of ways to access it. One is to use a web browser to access the Web Mail portion of the server, (useful if you are traveling or do not have access you your own computer) and the other is to use an Email client.
An email client communicates directly with the Mail server and, after authentication, sends down any unread email that is in your box.
Unless you tell the Mail Server to delete the mail from your box after you have downloaded it, your mail box will eventually fill up and the flow of mail, in and out, will stop.

Peter, you are A! correct.
I prefer to use Adelphia email and not the Mac mail.
Just my preference.
What will happen to the Adelphia email when Comcast takes over today?
Will that effect mail on OSX at all?
Not sure what will happen.
