What is the Panasonic PV-GS32?

Nov 21, 2005 5:30AM PST

Sam's club sells the Panasonic PV-GS32. I haven't seen any reviews on this camcorder. Does anyone know if this is similar to the PV-GS31? Any info would help.

Your assumption is correct: The 32 is the same as the 31. I wanted to buy the 32 at Costco, but they were out of them, so I ordered the 31 via Amazon which was $50 cheaper than Costco. Panasonic basically does what a lot of manufacturers do...they assign different model numbers to units that are sold in Big-Box stores to help protect the main retailers so we consumers can't shop-compare. It's like a local mattress store here in Los Angeles that advertises "We'll beat any advertised price or your mattress is FREE!" Well, just try to compare their mattresses with other stores. You can't, because they have different model numbers assigned for exactly the same mattress sold at other stores. It's an advertising scam.

difference

I have been shopping for this camera as well. One main difference I have noticed is Costco's gs32 has a 28x optical zoom and the gs31 has a 26x zoom.

i know this is old, so may not be looked at, but it is wrong. the difference is that the 31 does NOT! have a microphone jack, the 32 DOES! thats not a big deal for someone not looking to do any filming other than the family film, but those looking for a cheap indy film camera, this is a big deal

Does anyone have advice on downloading video images from the PV-GS32 to PC? I have had endless problems. Pictures have come through twice for about 30 seconds but otherwise the camrea is not recognised by the PC. I have checked the firewire cable and card. The XP operating system is correct.
Service from Panasonic has been as bad as anything I have experienced since trying to make an insurance claim form Legal and General 2o years ago - , obstructive staff, put on hold endlessly, promised calls never made,no news on 'repair' for 6 weeks, an admission that there is a known fault with this model, a 'fix' code for microsoft, then a denial that the existence of the fault was ever admitted and finallyan implausible account of damage after they had kept the camara for 2 months and an estimate of
