Question

What is the latest update?

Aug 29, 2018 9:42AM PDT

At this moment, I am updating my laptop with Windows 10. It has been for one hour so far, and it is only at 18%. It must be a major update.

I had one go overnight.

It was one of our i3 4GB 320GB HDD models. Update took overnight.
On the other end of the spectrum was an Acer Preditor with SSD, 16GB and update took 15 minutes.

Holy sh**! Is it possible the size of the memory and the type of hard drive has something to do with it? My laptop has an AMD (cpu) 8GB 1TB HDD I guess I won't be able to use the computer until this afternoon. Sad

Small world.

In the near to something like that we have an Asus K55 with A8, 8GB and a HDD. It took many hours.

I don't time such things but when we update, the power is applied (never on battery power) and we let it run.

The Latest Update For Windows 10 Is...
Aug 29, 2018 11:05AM PDT

Assuming you have the latest version of Windows 10 version 1803, build 17134, and all the previous updates are current, the latest update was KB4100347 which was released on August 21, 2018 to help patch Spectre Variant 2 (CVE 2017-5715 [“Branch Target Injection”] on Windows 10 v 1803 computers. Older versions of Windows 10 were also updated. Although Intel microcode patches were released previously, this release is an updated version.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4100347/intel-microcode-updates-for-windows-10-version-1803-and-windows-server

Prior to that, the standard Patch Tuesday update, August 14, was cumulative update KB4343909, plus one for Flash Player, plus some for MS Office.

So far, I've installed all these updates on 6 or seven computers and none of them took an extaordinary amount of time to update.

Hope this helps.

I bought the laptop last month....

and it seems the update is the April Creators Update. I wonder why it took so long to update since I had it for a month.

The April 2018/Creators Update Has Been Released Slowly
Aug 29, 2018 5:00PM PDT

...and if it actually is the Windows 10 April 2018 update, then it IS a large download and will take quite a while to install while online. Some are experiencing 2 hours + for download and installation, depending on your download speed.

To be sure that it is the Windows 10 2018 Update, after it installs and restarts your computer multiple times, you can check the version number by typing "winver" in the lower left search window. The version number immediately after install should be "version 1803", and the build number should be 17134.1.... or possibly 17134.228 if all the most recent updates are now included in the install.

Hope this helps.

Update is for protection while being online...

A message came on saying; Hi, we have updates for you...it is for your protection while online.

Yep, That's Basically the Normal Message

Hi. We've got some updates for your pc. This might take several minutes. Don't turn off your PC. These updates help protect you in an online world

Hopefully, the upgrade proceeds as it should and you'll get the newest version of Windows 10. Here, I choose to speed it up a little by watching for the next new upgrade release and when it's out, I download the latest Windows.iso using the Windows 10 Media Creation tool so I can perform the installation offline after taking a few steps to prevent any issues. It's just my preference.

Hope this helps.
