What is the highest optical zoom in a small camera with is

Nov 18, 2010 11:36PM PST

I current have a Canon 800 with image stabilizer with a low optical zoom. It has a digital zoom but I have found it shoots with very poor quality.

I need a small camera that I can carry in my pocket. I live on the lake and a lot of shots I have require a much better zoom.

Thanks

Pocket camera with high mag and IS
Nov 19, 2010 11:06PM PST

I am not tech savy regarding cameras. All I want is a camera that is IS and has a high optical magnificant. I read the post by PistonCupChampion and was advised that magnification number is less important. Unfortunately, I do not know how to decipher what this poster means.

I want a pocket camera that has IS and a high magnification. I know that camera experts understands exactly what was indicated but I do not.

Take a look at the Canon SD4500IS.

It has a 10X optical zoom.

You can find cameras with more zoom but any zoom from about 8X (and above) requires that you use a tripod.
If you don't use a tripod, you will likely get blurry photos due to camera motion.

IS (image stabilization) helps but it has its limits.
