What is the command (not msconfig) to show the things running in startup in WinXP?

Feb 28, 2004 6:46PM PST

I am using WindowsXP and I have previously typed in a command at Run that shows everything running at startup. This command was not msconfig. It showed more things listed. I have used it before and I forgot to save the command. I recently reformatted my hard drive and would like to know the command line again. I know what to leave checked and unchecked in the list, I just don't remember the command. I have found that msconfig does not show everything that is running at startup. There are too many things running that I do not need to be running. Can someone please give me the information?
All help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Patty

gmc, If Patty is using Windows XP Home Edition that run command won't work as it only works with Windows XP Pro Edition. I wish Microsoft would have this feature in the XP Home Edition.

Patty, You may be thinking of Task Manager which you can get to by holding down your Alt/Ctrl/Del keys down at the same time. You can also right click an empty area of your Taskbar and choose Task Manager. You will see a Processes tab which shows all running processes.

You can type services.msc in the RUN box, hit enter, and the Services window will open. You'll see what services are started, and disable/enable what you wish. A good resource for what to turn off or on, is http://www.blkviper.com . Just keep track of what you disable. Hope this helps.

Brandon, I tried http://www.blkviper.com and it keeps telling me the page cannot be displayed. I have been having this happen quite often. Do I have my settings wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

Pam, Does This Help ?

Here's a link to the Black Viper.com page for Windows XP service configurations:

http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

I'm on a Windows XP with a dial-up connection at the moment and it loads fine for me. If you're having problems, have you tried clicking on the "Refresh" button at the top of your browser?

Hope this helps.
