Question

what is the cause for dvd movie not playing

Jun 25, 2016 4:41AM PDT

This is a WIN 7 desktop. (husband's computer) So its difficult for me to know all the details of when it stopped. He tried to put a movie into the disk slot about 2 weeks ago. Nothing happened. Usually you can hear things happening once the disk is in place. I hate the thought of possibility of a drive problem. I think the best scenario would be with some kind of setting? I can't offer up any other symptoms other than nothing happening when the disk is put into the tray. If its something like a replacement being required, it wouldn't be a problem except that some programs are loaded on disks. For example, printers. So I would really need to have it looked at? Thank you for any answer on this

Answer
Here's an awful issue.

Windows 7, many versions did not play DVD so we had to install DVD player software.

As you don't know what app was playing the DVD the issue is either the action setting of what happens when a DVD is loaded is blown or the software to play the DVD needs to be reloaded.

Before I offer my usual fix I want to share that I'm running into this when folk try those PC Speedup or Fixer apps. Those registry cleaners are making a mess of PCs. Do not use those things.

OK, my usual instant fix is to reinstall the DVD Player then if they don't have it go get VLC Player from Ninite.com. Two more points and we are done.

1. Why Ninite? Read http://www.howtogeek.com/201354/ninite-is-the-only-safe-place-to-get-windows-freeware/
2. VLC Player plays Video DVDs. (for free.) Read http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/why-wont-windows-play-my-dvd-or-blu-ray-disc/ (Windows 7 too)

At worst you'll have to open the disc with the menu.

Thanks Prof. Sounds interesting. I saved the link on that website and signed up for their emails too. Happy My Dell L.T still works ok with using the disk player. It did work on the computer in original question, but things do have a way of quitting. lol. Also, I remember hearing about this VLC player for use in WIN 10 whenever a person decides to switch to 10. Not me yet. I still read about problems some people are having. I guess that would be to say; My computer was born a WIN 7, it will die a WIN 7. "Love it."!!!!!!! Thanks again. imgrateful_1 always
