W2K was left without a patch for a known exploit. XP is based on W2K and was pretty patched up plus got a few patches even after it's end day arrived.
I'd skip XP, Vista and find my cheapest version of 7,8 or 10 whichever I could find drivers for. Many old W2K machines will never see drivers for newer Windows.
It's a shame you left out machine details.

Is it true that Windows 2000 was target by hacker the most?
My old PC is running windows 2000 and i don't think the pc spec can handle windows 7 yet.
