...homegroups came along in Windows 7, and I still don't use homegroups. I just turn on file and printer sharing, then mark the folders I want to share via right-click -> Share with -> Specific people. Then I set it to share with everybody. I only share folders I don't have personal info in. I backup my hard drive to an external hard drive for backups.
I have a windows 8 laptop and so does my wife. I would like to share files from my laptop to hers. (mostly for backup) I had a homegroup setup but had to leave it because I was trying to copy a file to a windows 7 laptop (my old one I gave to my friend). Now I can't reconnect the homegroup. I left the home group on both PCs created it on hers then tried to join from mine, it would not let me join. I tried createing the homegroup on my pc then join from hers, same result. I can see the name of her PC in windows explorer, when I click on it it wants user credentials with a user name and password. I have no idea what it wants here. Is there a better or easier way to share files wirelessly between the 2 PCs?
