Question

What is the best way to organize my new computer

Please bear with me, I'm a rookie needing some advice. I have a new MB Air and I want to make sure it starts off organized as best as possible and have the least amount of headaches going forward.

Here's my situation:

I have the HD from my old MB Pro, plus a secondary SSD. Both have photos on them in various folders. I want to find all photos from these sources and combine them into one source. What can I do besides searching all folders on these drives one by one?

My MBA has a 120GB flash drive. The secondary drive is a 240GB SSD. Should I use Apple's Cloud to keep all my photos, or should I use a separate HD for all my photos and use a cloud backup system such as CrashPlan to back everything up? I only have about 30GB of photos at present, but want to get into more photography in the future now that our family has expanded.

Any feedback/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. I wonder what the best plan of attack would be to find all my photos on an individual drive if they are in multiple folders. Could there be some hidden folders that I would have to look for? Is this going to be a tedious process of searching through folders one at a time, or are there more efficient ways of tackling the problem?

What I would recommend is a portable HDD for storage. Buy the largest you can find. Western Digital Black is preferred. Best warranty. Always back up your data.

Are you old pics on an accessible drive that you can use an USB stick and copy them? Very easy to just do that and transfer it over to your NEW Storage Drive. 2T or better I would recommend

The cloud is usually pay more for more space so you decide that one. They usually give you 15gig for free. Pay forever after that or buy your own storage, your choice.

Create a folder on your new ssd call it photos.
Create sub folders and name each something that makes sense to you.
Son/daughter/wife/wedding....etc.

Buy an usb3 to sata cable and connect one of the old storage units.
Copy photos from old storage to your new folders.
Do the same with the other old storage unit.
Now that you have all your photos on your new ssd you can consider using one or both of the old units as backup.

As for the cloud check out the prices if it's in the budget use it as a 3rd backup.
