What is the best tablet for writing long emails/documents?

Jan 19, 2015 10:42AM PST

I'm a writer and I find that I do a lot of work on my tablet (I can type pretty fast with my thumbs). I'm mostly writing long documents, editing, responding to emails, so I need something that can handle that over long periods. I have the 2012 Nexus 7, and its a reliable tablet. I like using google docs on it and its decent, but since the lollipop update, the app shuts down when I type fast and it ruins my momentum. The best thing about the Neven is the size, its just right for reading and typing, but I just wonder if there's a more recent tablet that works better. Do later model Nevens run lollipop better than the 2012? Or is there a better device that handles typing and editing documents, like a note?

I added a bluetooth keyboard to my Nexis 7.

It's really great to get it all.

I'm unsure what you mean by run lollipop better. Just today someone asked me about boot time and at first glance it's the same as it was before lollipop.

In parting, if I was going to a Windows tablet I'd look at the Asus T100 (there are a few models) or the Microsoft Surface (any, from RT to Pro.)

more Google Doc App crashes
Jan 19, 2015 10:58AM PST

I just find that since the update, my tablet seems to dislike me editing documents, it crashes multiple times. I thought about getting a keyboard for it, but I do have a small chromebook and I use the tablet for squeezing in work here and there, when I'm not sitting down and upright. I thought about the surface and I'll have to look into the Asus. I do love the tablet I have now, but it doesn't keep up as well as it used to.

Did you try a keyboard on your Nexus?

I have a few from the Amazon Basics to a rather nice cover/stand model.

As to the crashes, if I were to bet it's something about tapping on the screen and the new slip and slide gestures could signal an exit. A real keyboard may correct that.

In parting just last we someone was complaining about crashing. Luckily it did it in front of me and it was the power off timer. It was set to seconds. Pushed it up to a few minutes and all better. It wasn't a crash but it was going to sleep. Folk call that crashing for some odd reason.
