Barring that, any entry level DSLR. $400-700.
As for an "inexpensive" all-in-one solution, the Olympus XZ-1, about $500.
FYI, no auto mode is foolproof, especially in more challenging lighting conditions. A camera is a tool, and as such, the more you know how to use the tool, the better the results will be.
