Depends

What price range?
What physical size? (ultra compact, compact, larger)

Preferences:
How much optical zoom?
Do you want a viewfinder and a LCD?
Is Image Stabilization important to you?

...........

Things to avoid:

1. No-Name cameras - Brands you never heard of.
...(shop for Canon, Casio, Fujifilm, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Sony)

2. EBay
...(shipping rates are outrageous)

Google searches for lowest price
...(Google accepts advertisements from "bait-n-switch" dealers and sites that are shills for "bait-n-switch" dealers)

...
..

well

It seems that the DP1 is a specialty camera that has high hopes for the future, but fails in many areas now. It's probably the best landscape camera point and shoot.

The p5100 adn the gx100 have too many failures and does not excel past the others in any area.

The G9 has been around long enough to be scrutinized an abundance and has done quite well. It has very high image quality and build quality for a pro-sumer point and shoot.

The gr2 appears to be smaller(more pocketable) than the G9. From other threads, it appears to be pushed towards people that go for full control over the camera and does a very good job of it.

So if you want a pant pocket camera that needs a photographers control, then the GR2 is the camera for you. If you want a camera that will fit in your jacket pocket and produce high quality images with high build quality then the G9 is for you.

Build quality= G9
value=?
image quality= GR2 if you have the ability to control the camera as a photographer.
