Have just spent a couple of days removing a horrid colletion of spyware/viruses that my daughter 'invited' in through an MSN attachment. It was 'Fakealert', 'Aconti' and others. Several anti-spyware progs failed to remove it, and it also blocked access to task manager. I think it has now all gone. But when I enable my wireless connection the PC connects to the web by itself and is very busy (it was left on this morning and had a packet counter of 200,000). I do not have it set to receive automatic windows updates, so what is it doing ? It seems to be services.exe that is flickering on task manager as the packet count changes - but services.exe is in the correct system32 folder so is presumably not a trojan. Finally, when I ran ad-aware to check things, it crashed the computer, which hasn't happened before. Any thoughts please - is the connection and downloading sinister ? Thanks
