what is my IP address when IM on a router

Oct 22, 2004 10:32AM PDT

hello everyone
I'm on a router and my local IP address 10.0.0.4 obviously if someone outside my network can't contact me using that, if I try and look up my IP address on a website it just gives my Router's IP address, is there any way of finding out the IP of my specific machine?

thanks in advance!

When assigning IPs dynamically the router uses this range of IPs for any machines on the local area network. The WAN address is that which the ISP will assign to the router. Port Forwarding is used to find a local machine behind a router.

You did not mention OS. If XP, you can go to Run and type "command" (no quotes). Then type "ipconfig". Your current IP address and gateway will be listed. If using DHCP from your router, this address is subject to change.
