Can someone give a detailed description of Linux please? Everyone is talking about it and I have no idea what it is.

Download this CD

Burn the image to a blank CDROM (make a cd from image not just a data CD with the .ISO file)

Set your Bios to boot from CDROM

Put the CD you burned on the CDROM tray

Start the PC

Let the system load (it will rum completely from ram without making any changes to your PC hard drive or current OS)

Try linux, play around with the features get familiar with the enviroment

When your done turn off the PC

remove the CD

Restart the the PC it will return to your original OS

Once you get familiar with the system you can get an installable copy of the OS and perfom the install to hard drive if you want to keep your original OS make a dual boot system.

What is the CD is an installer?
-No Linux offer something called "live CDs" you can put your hand on linux without doing any changes to your PC or installing anything.

Where can I get an installable copy of linux?
Are there any other live CDs besides Knoppix?

Hope thi info help you
