And would move to 1080 the moment it dies.

I'm shopping for a new LCD monitor to replace my 17" CRT. The monitors I am looking at are a 21.5" 16:9 ratio monitor with 1920x1080 resolution and a 22" 16:10 ratio monitor with 1680x1050 resolution. I would connect the monitor to an ATI Radeon 5770 graphics card.
I've read a few lengthy threads on other forums about whether 16:9 or 16:10 was better, but they weren't much help. It sounds like you should go with whichever monitor has a higher resolution. However, would the 16:10 aspect ratio have any benefits even though the display is lower resolution?
I use my computer for web surfing, photo editing, geographic information systems work (kind of like CAD), and occasionally watching videos online. I also play some older games like Sims 2, Sim City 4, and Railroad Tycoon II. Does one aspect ratio work better than the other?
