Presumably a dual band router in a home network permits one to separate internet traffic associated with say, media devices (e.g. movies streaming to HDTVs, blueray DVD players, game boxes, etc) vs computer elements (e.g. multiple PCs, printers, etc). But unless there is a lot of simultaneous, heavy use going on, is there any significant performance loss, as a practical matter, from having typical devices on a home network all share a common frequency (single band) router vs splitting them up using a dual band router presumably to lessen chances of exceeding the available link capacity?

A dual band router is only useful if you have devices that support it. For instance my tv a 2010 model, the iPad 2 but not my iPod touch or roku XD video streaming box. And I honestly don't see a difference in the way my tv streams or roku streams video for. That matter. Basically I don't see a visible benefit.
