Question

What is a Phase Switch in a Canon Camera?

Aug 28, 2011 6:33AM PDT

Hello! I had to have my Canon Rebel XS repaired because the phase switch was dirty. What is that exactly and how do I keep it from happening again? {It wasn't a cheap repair...}

Thanks!

Answer
Was this to fix an audio failure?

If so, it's a switch to get better audio but when it fails, you may get no audio. This can be an actual switch or a component in the design.

If it was dirt I'd look at my camera bag. Is it clean and a fresh desiccant pack in there?

No Audio...
Aug 28, 2011 7:48AM PDT

Hi! I don't have video capabilities on my camera so I don't think it was associated with audio. I might have to call the repair shop & ask tomorrow for more details.

Thanks for your help!

Phase Switch
Aug 28, 2011 11:18AM PDT

I have never heard of a "Phase Switch".

I did a computer search of the Canon Rebel XS User Manual and there is only one instance of the word "phase". Canon uses a "phase" detection method for Auto Focus (AF). There is no mention of a switch.

Puzzled !
