What is a good software to play audio video?

When I try to play videos, I get no sound or my computer sounds like it has the he coughs, Can anyone tell me what software I should download?

VLC PLAYER is quite good at this but if your PC is underpowered (say, a netbook) then this won't help much.

You could try AVS Media Player. I have used this couple of years back. It was okay.
