What is a good case for the Core i7?

by Earthquake152 / November 1, 2009 3:25 AM PST

I have been planning to upgrade my current computer, which is a Core i7 computer. Right now, I am trying to find exactly which components i should use, and I found the ASUS Rampage II GENE, a mATX X58 motherboard that performs very well. Seeing as it is a mATX motherboard, I'm hoping to find a nice, small mATX Case for my i7. I plan to use the Prolimatech Megahalems cpu cooler (Height: 157 mm) and a Corsair TX750 PSU (Height: 87 mm). I have been looking at the Thermaltake LANBOX VF1000BWS, which, according to the specs, seems to be tall enough to fit the cooler and psu, but I was hoping for some confirmation before I purchase it. Could anyone tell me if this will work for me or if a different case will work better for me. I did check ouf NXZT's Rogue case, but it seems a tad expensive at ~$139.99. For that price, I could get a mid tower case (but then it wouldn't be as portable). I'd appreciate any advice people can give me (even if they yell at me that I am a idiot for trying to do this). This is my first build/upgrade, so I really do need help.

My budget

Seeing as its a small case, I'm hoping to keep it around ~$100.

I totally understand...

...however, shouldn't it be fine as long as there is sufficient airflow though the case? I'm trying to find something that is small/light enough that I could bring it to a friend's house without breaking my back (a.k.a., I would not enjoy bring an Antec Twelve Hundred to a friend's house). Since the Rampage II GENE is a mATX board, I was hoping there would be a case out there that would be okay to use with it. I think I will take your advice and at least look into some midtower cases that I feel that I could lug to a friend's house. Btw, do you know any e-tailer that carry computer cases? I usually look at newegg or amazon, and I was wondering if there's somewhere else I could look.

One last thing...

What do you think about NZXT's Rogue? It has support for up to 5 120mm fans, and it isn't exactly the typical mATX case (if you could even call it a mATX case seeing how big it is).

Lian Lis are great but don't slim down too much.

If it's between these two . . .

I'd go for the Rogue.

That said I don't think the Prolimatech Megahalems HS Fan will fit in that rig and I'd be real careful about placing HDDs where there's no separation or breathing room between them. Same for the video... most of the gaming cards need mucho space.

Let us know how it works out

If it doesn't fit, I guess I won't get the case. Oh well, time to look for a nice midtower case...

Thanks anyways!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
