Question

What is a decent laptop for web design?

Feb 6, 2014 5:07AM PST

I am currently going to school for web design and interactive media and I want to get a laptop for it.
I am not sure what to get.
I need it to hold Adobe Creative Cloud and all of its extensions. I really don't want to pay an arm and leg for something I am just starting but it needs to be good enough to get me through school. Any suggestions?

Thanks

The school however will have a short list of units you should consider.

You can take the laptop from your library if you want to learn designing.

Yeah, it'll be the best option for you otherwise you need to buy your budget laptop which has minimum core i3 processor, 4 GB ram, 350 GB HDD and 1 GB graphics card.

Answer
You have to make a careful choice before choosing a laptop.

First of all decide which operating system you would like to use, Chrome OS. Windows, Linux are widely used and each of them has their own advantages. You don't need to buy costly graphic cards or anything but a normal RAM and a high speed CPU will do the job for you.

Let's say you are a web developer.

Wouldn't you get all of those and test that your site works on each?

A few smart phones too. At the office we avoid this by each staffer trying it out on the iPhones and droid.

-> I think the industry calls that "Responsive Design" and if a new web author was so new they picked ONE and only one machine to make and see their site, they would miss out on what it's all about.

Answer
You don't need any specific laptop

You don't need any specific laptop. I think all major brands work just fine. Most important is getting enough computing power for your budget. Get a quad core with 4GB ram. Most laptops have integrated graphic card which limits their power. If you use a lot of graphics, try to find one with a dedicated graphic card. ASUZ is my recommended brand if you wanna have a good affordable choice.
