Oct 11, 2009 1:23AM PDT

Windows 7 RC x64 worked fine for me till 4th October.
Now my email software 'Incredimail Xe' reports receiving emails but nothing appears in the Inbox.
Word 97 opens with an error window - 'Word cannot open the existing"

Things to try:
- System Restore
- Repair install
- Clean install now
- Wait till October 22, then a clean install with the then released version (you can't do an upgrade anyway).

For some reason the earliest Restore Point was 8th October - No good.
Tried Repair Restore with firewalls disabled - Failed, message: 'Setup can't continue. Restart the computer and restart Setup. When prompted, try getting the latest updates'. Rebooted, tried again, same result.
If other suggestions fail will have to wait till 22nd October and clean install released version.

Something Manual.
Oct 11, 2009 2:41AM PDT

1. Manually uninstall Open Office (this link and more)
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=55843

2. Try Word in Word's SAFE MODE. (sorry you can google how.)

3. Learn about Shortcuts is deep detail.

4. Set Word 97 to run in some compatibility mode. (google that.)

Tried to open Word in Safe mode - same result.
Set Compatiblity for XP SP3 - Opened OK but save failed. Message: 'Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error'.
Thank you both for your suggestions.

That file permission error is

Almost well known. I can get that in many programs if I'm in the wrong place. Word 97 as you know is not supported anymore which is why you may have to wait for "XP MODE".

I just did a clean install using my RC installation DVD.
I installed Word 97 and immediately set it to XP compatibilty mode. It now works fine. Just about to check my email program.
Many thanks to all.

But today seems to be a day of people posting problems after they ran a REGISTRY CLEANER.

Internal Error 2203 C:\Windows\Installer\c4edfp.ipi, -214728
Oct 31, 2009 5:50AM PDT

I installed Windows 7, this morning. I had XP, so I formatted the drive and did a clean install. I'm trying to install OpenOffice, but I'm receiving the following error:

"Internal Error 2203 C:\Windows\Installer\c4edfp.ipi, -2147287035"

I haven't been able to find any answers that apply to Windows 7.

Thanks in advance.

Still looks to be permission issues.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296056 and MANY other links point to file permissions. Could be simple or hard as many never expected to learn about file permissions, ownership and more.

There is no do this for this issue. There are many things to check in permissions and file, directory read-only settings.
