What happened to System Restore?

by IvyTowr / October 17, 2007 6:37 AM PDT

System Info:
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs)
File System: NTFS
System Model: snc302eeh
Hard Drive: 80 gb
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
Memory: 958MB RAM
Sound Devices: Sound Blaster Audigy
Monitor: Envision EN-S1995 - Card Name: VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP
Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives

My Question.
I tried to use Sytem Restore and it is not working. I tried several dates including the Restore dates I created, the result is the same. Cannot be restored.
In over a year this has NEVER happened. In fact I haven't heard of anyone mention this happening. Is there a solution for this?

The possibilities and solutions are numerous, so if you have the time start by clicking here for the preliminary list. Good luck. Sad

Why do you say "UNFORTUNATELY" when you say the possibilities and solutions are numerous? I think this is
super ... califragilisticexpeealidocioucious

I've used a computer for years, and never heard of this happening. Of course System Restore was not always available on all versions of Windows.

Hey I love this computer, I'll go to any length - well ... almost to fix it.

Can you create one?

You said you aren't able to restore to a previous restore point, but are you able to create your own? Did you use any cleaning utilities or enable something somewhere that might have removed all restore points? It's easy to do if you miss something or check the wrong thing.

what problems do you have that require you to resort to System Restore ? There may be a clue there as to why system restore failed. Have you tried to go back to every restore point you have, say, for the last month ? ( going too far back would not be practical.)

System Restore

Yes, I was able to create a restore point. And ya know what? I cannot remember what the situation was that had me resort to system restore to begin with. Everything is running fine now.
And, by the way, I can use certain restore points. Strange. I have a notebook to write everything in, and it is missing. Some "Little Hands" got a hold of it to draw stick men. For now all is well. This certainly is odd. I imagine it will come up again. I'll get a hold of those darling "Little Hands" and snatch that notebook back. Thanks all.

That's good.

At least you got it working so that's good. Thanks for letting us know.

Oh and you can't blame those "Little Hands", stick men are fun when you're young, and notebooks too...LOL

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
