Question

What exactly is the "2 yr plan" that comes with smartphones

Mar 3, 2016 5:39PM PST

I have an LG Cosmos 3 currently which I got on May 30, 2015. I want to buy a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge around the same time this year. When you buy a smartphone that comes with the 2 year plan, what exactly is included in the plan, can I keep my number, and will it cost anything more on my current plan? Thanks for your help.

Most US cellular carriers no longer offer 2 year contracts. The new options are Next (At&t) and Edge (Verizon) in which you are essentially financing the price of the phone through your carrier. Hard to offer specific advice unless you confirm which carrier you are currently using.

I see the major carrier's have found another way to screw their customers again... Everyone, is being blinded by these non contractual month to month plans! Not keeping in mind that they're paying nearly three times the cost of the phone than before and technically it isn't even your phone until paid in full to the service provider.. Still kinda sounds like a contract to me!Lol! Also, if you decide to leave your carrier does that mean you have to purchase the same $700 phone again because not all phones are compatible on the other major networks... ?

To kanesimicart,
The cell phone carriers are charging retail price only. For example, iPhone is not $200. Never were.
iPhone prices are $650, $750, $850, $950. Customers have been deluded for decades thinking they cost less when carriers were hiding the cost in your service cost. It's about time you knew exactly what you were paying for.
