What does "Bass cuttoff frequency" mean?

I'm modifying my Sound Blaster properties THX Console settings. It has a cuttoff frequency option that defaults at 200HZ. What does this mean?

Where you set it depends on your speaker system.

General people set the cutoff from to 80hz-200hz because that's what the sub-woofer will handle.
