General discussion

what do you think of this explanation

Sep 15, 2005 6:44PM PDT

my cable connection has been erratic of late,,,,,dropped connections, that required me disconnecting/connecting the power on it and sometimes the dlink router. it's acting like the modem is the problem. anyway, i called roadrunner support, and as is usual in these cases, they tried to place blame on the router(this after i tried two different, working routers)

so here's one explanation roadrunner gave me.....that the router is changing settings, specifically, that it might be changing port settings. what do you think of their explanation?

i've been using this setup(router and cable box)for years with no problem. this has happened only in the last two days.

My router did something like that. For months it was fine and then erratic. Thanks to others in this forum I read a new firmware was out and amazingly it fixed that plus cured another bug.

You didn't tell if you did this or the more usual SPYWARE removal.

and i'm spyware free, as far as i can tell. worked fine all day and then it lost connection again just before my post. too early to tell the long term, i think. what spyware do you mean?,,,and what is it doing if there were one present?

Let me be blunt.

So far after dozens of challenges, only one person has emailed me a hijackthis log that was clean. How do you know your machine doesn't have a pest.

Did you ???

1. Try the factory router settings? I can't tell if you did that and if the router is in a nice cool place. Hint: one user had their books on top.
2. Post your HIJACKTHIS log in a HJT forum and get it cleaned up?
3. Try EWIDO and toss what it found?

Not to sound harsh, but with some 1 person so far passing the challenge, I'm a skeptic.
