What do you think of the Pebble Steel?

Jan 6, 2014 8:22AM PST

What do you think of the Pebble Steel?
-- The new design is awesome. Can't wait to buy one.
-- I'm holding out for a more exciting smartwatch
-- I'm not dropping the extra money for the new design
-- I prefer to use a fitness tracker instead of a smartwatch
-- I am not interested in a Pebble or any smartwatch.

To paraphrase Patrick Henry

Give me a PC or give me death! Google Glass, smart watches, smart TVs; what is the world coming to? Methinks P.T. Barnum was right.

Too bad there is no brain activity monitor
Jan 7, 2014 2:28PM PST

Pebble Steel is essential for brain dead individuals who need a car that blows it's horn when you press the remote to lock the doors.

A Solution in search for a problem
Jan 7, 2014 7:50AM PST

At least that is my opinion. Something else I don't need. My 30-year-old Rolex doesn't need batteries, data plan or anything else to give me the time. Who needs all the bells and whistles? What will a Pebble Steel be like in 30 years?

The steel is not necessary for me.
Jan 7, 2014 9:30AM PST

I did the kickstarter thing on the pebble and have been waiting for some more apps. Got some good ones now and have the important things that I need. I get messages and phone call notifications, the text is on the pebble, and my calendar items show on the bottom of the screen. I don't need a show piece watch, but I am an engineer so what. I would like someone to be able to connect to my Polar heart monitor so I don't have to change watches at the gym, but that may not work due to Polar. I can track my walks and overall the Pebble is great; I just don't need the steel. If I didn't have the basic Pebble and had to choose a watch, then maybe the steel one would work. But if someone looks at my wrist watch and thinks I am a nerd, then so be it.

NO Smart watch
Jan 7, 2014 10:19AM PST

I do not have or need a smart phone so why would I desire a small version to wear on my wrist?

The youth of the day are caught up in a gotta have it craze or fad that drives them to have to seek and have the latest greatest popular thing. Down through the ages there have always been those, but never to the totality of society that tech gadgets have brought.

One word - ROLEX
Jan 7, 2014 3:48PM PST

I don't need a smart watch and I don't need smart phones where the battery goes dead after 4-5 hrs of use.
What I need stuff that works; a ROLEX, a NORMAL cellphone with good battery life, a pocket calender and a pen, as for the rest of the geeky stuff I was equipped with a brain at birth that fills all my other needs and hey my brain don't need any upgrades or batteries, just to be used to stay in shape. Switch off your brain and you only get dumber.

People have Too Much money
Jan 8, 2014 3:29AM PST

Anyone purchasing one of these little gadgets has way too much money.

Add 20% VAT (Value Added Tax - for the UK) and you are talking about 18 weeks food money for someone who is on a basic state pension.

If you can afford one of these... just give the money to a Feed the Hungry charity - and feel good for all TIME.

Lol, so much for wearables
Jan 14, 2014 5:16PM PST

Wonder what the manufacturers that are investing in this space think about the fact that 80% of the technologically proficient individuals that took this poll aren't the least bit interested in any wearable devices. It's bad enough that people go out to dinner with friends, or to the movies, and then rudely sit there and play with their phones the entire time (often without turning off or even turning down all of the sounds), instead of enjoying the food, the company, and the experience. Smart phones and all of the so-called "social" apps that go with them are simultaneously one of the best and worst things that have ever happened to mankind. The last thing we need are wearables, and all too soon they'll be marketing implants.

Well at least people won't need implants to cure constipation...!

The no-brainers who buy all this crap are so far up themselves that they can do the job while they are there.

Pebble watch is not my favorite
Aug 20, 2015 8:09AM PDT

I am a smart watch lover and I have used different brand. Honestly, I don't like Pebble. I think Sony Smart watches are far better than Pebble. Now I am using Sony SW3 and thinking about switching to upcoming Modular smart watch. I really love the idea of this upcoming smart watch.
